 | Ferret's Beginner's Machine Quilting Beginner Machine Quilting Requirements
- Practice quilt sandwich. Ideally something plainish on one side and busy on the other. Make it at about 1m square, with a thin wadding in it. Secure the three layers together in your preferred manner. Depending on how fast you work you may want to have a bigger sample. If you are unsure of tacking methods bring the three layers and I will help you on the day.
- Threads, a selection of weights, colours and fibers. Try to bring thread that matches your sandwich (front and back) as well as some that contrast.
- Sewing machine, its manual and feet, including a hopping or darning foot. If you have one bring the walking foot. This would be a good time to give the machine a clean and oil. If you have them bring spare bobbins, this might be a good time to use up those with odd bits of thread on.
- Marking tools, chalk pencil, washout pen, vanishing pen. Bring what you have especially if you haven't played with it yet.
- Needles for the machine. If you have them bring a range of needles, sizes 60 - 100, jeans, quilting and metallic needles may all be useful when playing with different threads.
- Small scissors for trimming threads.
- Paper, for taking notes and practicing designs.
- If you have any quilt tops waiting that you want ideas for, bring them along.
- Lunch
