Marking your fabric is a necessity. If you want to follow your pattern and if you want perfect straight lines you need to mark your fabric. Here is a guide to doing it properly.
You might think that marking isn't really necessary for your project and sometimes you might be right. If you are just cutting straight lines without any detail, then you may nbe able to do that with a rotary cutter. However, for marking out sewing lines for piecing or quilting or in dressmaking if you intend to add pockets, buttons or hems to your item - you will need to mark.
There are lots of different marking methods out there
Permanent markers - these are for making permanent marks, that is they will stay forever - ideal for drawing dolls faces, labeling items etc.
Removable Markers - these come in a range of types and include ones that can be washed or brushed away, or those that vanish on their own - usually by absorbing water from the air.
Chalk Markers - chalk pieces then when drawn or rolled along leave behind a chalk residue. This can be brushed or washed off
Remember if you are marking on dark fabrics you ill need a light coloured marker and vice versa.
