Trip Around the WorldTrip Around the World
Trip round the World Quilts
This can either be done Scrappy or with coordinating fabric.
It would be helpful if you could come with fabric cut (at least some!!)
SCRAPPY
Mine is 84in x 60in
Made up of 35 12in blocks (7 x 5)
You will need 210 strips 2 1/2 in x 16in in sets of 6
If you want to make a smaller (or larger!) quilt then work out how many 12in blocks you need and then multiply that by 6
You could make this in 6 coordinating fabrics and make some interesting patterns
NON SCRAPPY
Quilt size without borders 74 x 60
4 x 4in strips selvedge to selvedge of 9 different fabrics
Or you can do it with 5 different fabrics in which case you would need 8 x 4in strips from 4 of the fabrics and 4 x 4in strips from the 5th
PLUS AN EXTRA 4in square for the centre
Sewing machine plus foot plus power lead
¼ in foot

Stripey No Quilt Quilt requirements
11in squares of backing fabric
11in squares of wadding use up all your bits, although they should all be the same type. You can even piece your wadding - butting the edges and using a large zig zag stitch
As many strips of fabric as you have
Any leftover triangle pieces you have
At least 1m of fabric for sashing - front and back of quilt and thread to match

The 11in squares will be cut down to 10 ½ in - 10 in finished so as many squares of each as you need to make a quilt the size you want
e.g. a quilt 60 x 40 in will need 6 x 4 = 24 squares
Can be made using any size squares but allow an inch from start to finish i.e. cut 7in squares will finish up as 6in finished
Working sewing machine, lead and foot pedal
¼ in foot and walking foot (if you have them)
Thread, all purpose colour (light grey, beige) and whatever colour you would like as your "quilting" thread visible on the back of the quilt

? Extra material for a further border
Threads to match

Black and White and Colour Quilt RequirementsBlack and White and Colour Quilt Requirements
Requirements for Black & White & Colour Quilt
For a quilt approx. 68 x 52 ins
2 mtrs each of 2 strongly contrasting fabrics (This includes the outer border and the binding)
Material for centres - I used scrappy 9 patch squares and some brightly coloured squares which I highlighted with embroidery. The squares need to be 5in. If making 9 patch the individual squares need to be 2in.
There are loads of other things you could put in the centres. Fussy cutting fabric, all plain with applique or embroidery, all different fabrics or anything else of your choice (it needs to be 5in so when sewn is a 4 ½in square). It's your choice.
If doing plain squares and making the same size quilt as I have you will need 35 squares so 1.1metre of fabric if you were to do them all the same.
I put a 1in (finished ) 1 ½in cut border in brightly coloured fabric. 3 strips 1 1/2 in wide across the bolt of 2 fabrics.
Sewing machine with ¼in foot and foot pedal and lead
Machine thread
Rotary cutter, mat and long ruler
